Seattle Native Tonya Hawkes Returns to the Pacific Northwest
You are never fully dressed without accessories. A simple outfit can be made original and luxurious with a unique handbag.
Originality and luxury are the essence of Tonya Hawkes and her line of designer handbags. Her brand is both feminine and unusual, pairing essential lines with eccentric yet sensual features.
Tonya Hawkes, a world-renowned luxury designer and Seattle native, has come back to the Pacific Northwest to showcase her handbags, along with a collection of designer items by a carefully curated group of fabulous women in business, at Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop. The Tonya Hawkes Collective will be in shop from September 2–30, 2021.
Born and raised in Seattle, Hawkes graduated from design school and headed to the East Coast where she started her career in New York City under fashion designer Donna Karan. Working her way to Vice President of Design, her next move took her across the world; Hawkes became the president of design for the Italian luxury goods company FURLA.
Full of drive and creativity, Hawkes had a vision to create her own company that bridged together product design and business development. Her specialties were handbags, footwear and small leather goods. Almost immediately, the company collaborated with highly distinguished fashion brands like Sergio Rossi, Gianfranco Ferre, Elie Tahari, Tommy Hilfiger Europe, Coccinelle and Botkier.
In 2012, Hawkes launched her debut collection of handbags and presented it to Vogue US. With their support, her namesake brand was introduced to New York City’s top fashion retailers in collaboration with Vogue.com. Tonya Hawkes was positioned among the world's leading luxury labels out of the gate.
Today, the Tonya Hawkes brand has appeared in hundreds of editorials for Vogue, Marie Claire, ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar. The handbags have graced the red carpets in the hands of celebrities like Alicia Keys, Mindy Kaling and Solange Knowles.
Now back in Seattle, Hawkes is looking forward to expanding her brand to her hometown and bringing her artistic designs to the West Coast. Her stay at Periodic is the first step in that vision.
While at Periodic, the Tonya Hawkes Collective will feature Hawkes' sculptural handbags as well as products made by other women in business that have played a role in Hawkes’ life. Visitors are invited to shop Eileen Shields, Codor Design, Susan Wheeler Home, Curated Palace, sskein, Anna Porcu, Lauren Wheeler Styling and ISO Seattle Designer Consignment & Vintage Finds.
Opening night of the Tonya Hawkes Collective will be on September 2, 2021, from 5-8 p.m.
The Tonya Hawkes Collective will be in Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop from September 2-30, 2021. Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop is located at 2252 7th Ave., Seattle, WA 98121.
