Getting Into Gear with Outdoor Research at Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop
Whether summiting Mt. Rainier or bouldering the Utah arches, those who seek adventure know the crucial difference good gear can make. Some outdoor brands focus on fashion, some on utility. At Outdoor Research, they don’t compromise either.
In the early 1980’s, Ron Gregg summited Denali with a friend — with inadequate gear. Seeing the life-threatening impact this had on their climb due to the frigid temperatures, Gregg saw a need for a better brand. When he returned to Seattle after his climb, he made it his mission to create outdoor gear that could prevent frostbite. The result was a functional, insulated gaiter he called the X-Gaiter™. Outdoor Research was founded the following year.
Gregg was a nuclear physicist who spent as much time as possible exploring the edges of the map. He believed that the scientific research method could be applied to apparel, too. He named his brand to fittingly encompass its devotion to creating outdoor apparel that was scientifically researched to be the most durable and supportive on the trail.
Today, Outdoor Research continues to manufacture technical apparel and PPE that protects outdoor adventurers, medical staff, armed forces and everyone else who needs protection outside of their home. You can shop some of your favorite products, like jackets, headwear, travel bags and more, during their pop-up at Periodic: A Pop-Up Shop. Their three-week stay is an extension of their Seattle flagship store with a personalized touch. Let the experts help you find the perfect gear for your next summer adventure.
